A pallet of jugged liquid detergent or boxed powder is genuinely heavy freight. The category only lightens as retail presentation takes over: display boxes, oversized bottles and single-use formats add air around the same cleaning product.

Pods are the format that breaks the pattern. A tub of laundry pods is a small amount of concentrated detergent inside a large plastic container with plenty of headspace, so pods ship much lighter than the equivalent liquid or powder and rate toward — or past — the top of the range. It's the same trade the beverage aisle makes with bulky multipacks: the more the packaging is built for the shelf, the more air you ship.

Full pallets, and keep pods off the dense product

Bulk liquid and powder need only tight, full, weight-rated pallets — they're dense, so the job is not wasting it with loose or partial loading, and you'll hit the pallet's weight limit before running out of height. Cased jugs and boxed powder stack into solid, square units that measure close to their real weight.

The one sorting rule that matters: keep pods and airy retail formats off the dense-product pallets. A few tubs of pods riding on a liquid-detergent pallet drag the whole unit's density down and can cost a class, so ship the light retail formats on their own units and let each take its honest class. Some concentrated cleaning chemicals may also be regulated — check the product's status if it's more than ordinary soap.
