The material decides everything
"Fencing" isn't one freight profile — it's a category where the material sets the class across a wide range. Steel: chain-link rolls and metal posts are dense, compact, and rate near class 70. Vinyl and aluminum: hollow panels and rails are mostly air, rating class 110–125. Wood: pickets and rails sit in between, dense enough when bundled but bulky loose. A fence order often ships all three at once — rolls, panels, posts and hardware — and the blended density depends entirely on the mix.
The second variable is form: rolls versus panels versus posts. Chain-link and welded-wire ship as compact rolls that pack dense; rigid panels (vinyl privacy, aluminum ornamental) are flat and bulky and take real space per pound; posts bundle tight like the metal stock they are. Because the same job mixes these, quoting fencing off one component's class overbills the dense rolls or underbills the bulky panels.

Density is weight ÷ volume (cubic feet = L × W × H in inches ÷ 1,728). Here is how typical fencing shipments measure out:
Chain-link fence rolls — class 70

Bundle by type, mind the length
Sort and bundle by component. Keep dense rolls and posts on their own tight, banded units to hold class 70, and let bulky vinyl or aluminum panels take their own (higher) class rather than blending everything into one middling-density pallet. Panels stacked flat and square measure far better than leaned or loosely-loaded ones.
Length is the recurring handling driver — fence panels and posts run long, exceed standard pallet footprints, and need appropriate equipment. Rigid panels also flex and scratch, so band them as rigid stacks with edge protection.
